The great folks at Feed Bandit, the famous Texas outdoor and hunting podcast, asked to try out one of our deer protein blocks. Our deer block has 18% protein, is apple flavored, and weighs approximately 33 pounds. They went into the experiment skeptical, but a week later they were just as enthusiastic about this proven deer block as the rest of our customers. The deer and exotics on their ranch were pretty enthusiastic about it too!
Richard Kincheloe (aka the “Corn Bandit”) had always been a bit skeptical about game attractants. He really wondered if deer blocks were worth the price. He was worried that Texas’ infamous raccoons would devour the whole block before the local deer even got a lick or two.
A week later, his fears were put to rest. The fact is that West Feeds deer protein blocks tend to attract deer so rapidly and in such great numbers that the raccoons simply don’t have much time to gorge themselves on these nutrient-packed blocks.
The Results Speak for Themselves!
After placing the apple-flavored deer blocks out in the open on the Feed Bandits’ ranch, Richard set up a camera. Over the next few days, bucks and does from all species—whitetails, blackbucks, and the axis deer—all lined up like kids at an all-you-can-eat buffet, gradually whittling down the block. Reviewing the “evidence” Richard showed how the block lasted about a week before disappearing into the bellies of the local deer population.
In his blog post on the experiment, Richard remarked that blackbucks and axis deer don’t have a normal breeding season here in Texas since they’re not indigenous species. Both species can be pregnant year-round. After seeing the success of our apple-flavored deer blocks, he decided to start buying these blocks regularly, to support their supplemental feeding program to help the pregnant axis and blackbuck does get the nutrition they need.
Our Deer Blocks Can Help You Out, Too!
We’re proud to say we made believers out of the Feed Bandits! If you’re considering investing in one of our deer protein blocks to increase antler size and improve deer herd health, we hope this test has given you some valuable insights. There’s nothing more concrete than a little firsthand evidence. It’s one thing for a company to say, “Our feed attracts deer,” and another thing entirely to demonstrate it.
We’ll wrap up by saying this: We couldn’t have done it alone. The success of our Apple Deer Block comes from 35 years’ worth of feedback from Texas hunters and deer ranch managers. This real-life research has helped us refine our deer feed to the point where deer love it as much as Texans love a good barbeque. So, thank you to all our friends, partners, and customers—stay outdoors and keep on loving nature!
